No guns allowed sign

No Open Carry In Florida Is A GOOD Thing.

May 20, 20232 min read

They say that ignorance is bliss. Perhaps, but not when it comes to carrying firearms and protecting the rights of gun owners.

Constitutional Carry or Permit-less Carry is coming to Florida on July 1st. Some gun advocates and 2nd Amendment supporters are claiming that it’s not true Constitutional Carry because Open Carry is not included in the bill. In Florida, that’s a blessing. Here is why:

Currently, “No Guns Allowed” signs posted on some businesses are not enforceable in Florida unless the business owner or employees ask you to leave. If they do, you must comply, or you may be arrested for armed trespassing.

So, as long as you’re legally carrying concealed and no one knows, you’re acting lawfully.

However, if open carry was permitted in Florida, these signs would become enforceable. That means, if you see that sign, you can not enter unless you leave your firearm in the car.

Furthermore, those who are not pro-gun or are nervous and afraid around them will turn you in in a heartbeat.

Lastly, anti-gunners will likely protest in front of and disrupt or boycot businesses that allow open carry. These businesses will then feel pressured to put up “No Guns Allowed” signs so they can stay in business. That will increase the places any of us can carry in. In essence, Florida will turn into a giant gun free zone, and we know how safe these are proving to be.

So, before you go and follow the herd and demand open carry, understand the pros and cons. Besides, IMO, open carry is not a smart idea to begin with and something I will never do in daily life. If you want to know why, you can read my blog called “Open Carry — Why I’ll Never Do It.”.
