It's The Wrong Gun

January 21, 20233 min read

Buying your first gun can be thrilling, intimidating, and weird.  It’s like a goulash of emotions.  Thrilling because it’s a lot of fun and just raw power in the palm of your hand.  It is intimidating because one wrong move can cause a lot of damage.  And weird because you’re not sure if you’re ready and if you really need one.

So, as is customary in today’s day and age, you ask Uncle Google and your Facebook friends for a recommendation on the best gun to buy for your budget.

confused

You get so many answers back that you end up more confused.  So, you go to the local gun store and tell them you want to buy a gun.  So, they make a recommendation and you buy it.  And now, being a new yet responsible gun owner, you realize you should sign up for some classes and learn how to safely and responsibly use your new gun.

You’re a bit nervous but also excited.  As the lesson continues, you realize that your new gun doesn’t fit you at all.  It’s too big or small, your finger can’t reach the trigger properly.  You’re struggling to move the slide.  You can’t load the bullets in the magazine, and when you finally shoot your gun, it kicks like a mule and makes way too much noise.

"What did I get myself into?  You think."

What did I get myself into

Your instructor does his or her best to help you get used to it, but ultimately, it's the wrong gun for you.  This kind of experience may discourage you from continuing your firearm journey altogether.

But it doesn't have to be that way.  Guns are similar to cars in many ways.  Would you buy a two seat fast convertible if you had a family of 6?  Would you buy a minivan if you wanted to compete on a race track?

The likelihood is that you would determine what you want and need the car for.  You would narrow down your list to a few cars that fit your needs.  You would test drive each car and pick the one that checks most, if not all, your boxes.

Choosing the right car

That way, you can feel confident it will work when you need it and serve your needs.

The same applies to choosing a gun.  What do you want and need the gun for? Is it for self-defense, hunting, or recreation?

Narrow it down to a few guns that best serve that purpose.  "Test drive" these few guns... Do they fit properly in your hand?  Can you operate the gun with relative ease and comfort?  Can you handle its power?

The gun that checks the most boxes is the one.  That way, if and when you wanted and needed to put that firearm into action, you can feel confident it will work.

Now, there is a good chance you may be thinking, "Joe, you make it sound simple, but I have no idea where to start this selection process."

That's exactly why we created the Beginners Guide To Firearms course and made this process very simple for hundreds of students.

This revolutionary course will not only make choosing the perfect gun for you simple, but also how to become safe, responsible, and confident with it so that if and when you wanted or needed to use it, it will work and perhaps even save your life and the lives of those you love.
