If you intend to carry concealed without a Florida Concealed Carry Permit come July 1st, you want to hear this.

Law abiding Florida residents who intend to carry a firearm concealed in public without a permit will NOT have all the privileges that come WITH a permit.

One particular privilege is quite tricky and may potentially land you in jail.

It is prohibited to carry a concealed weapon on any school or college property whether you have a permit or not.

It is also illegal to carry a concealed weapon within 1000 feet of a school zone. Unless...

you have a Florida Concealed Carry Permit.

And now, with the recently passed Church Carry law, you may lawfully carry concealed in a church and on church grounds. However, if there is a school on the church grounds, you may only carry concealed if you have a Florida Concealed Carry Permit.

Think about your daily routine. How many schools and houses of worship do you drive by? The likelihood is every day and by multiple locations. And remeber, it within 1000 feet of a school zone, not just the building itself. So, it is highly probable that the road you're on is easily within 1000 feet of the "zone".

If you intend to carry without a permit and you’re pulled over by law enforcement within the parameters I've described above, you better hope the officer is in a great mood that day and feeling generous, or the officer doesn’t ask you if you have a concealed weapon in the vehicle. Otherwise, you may be arrested and charged.

So, if you intend to skip the permit process because you want to save money or because you believe you shouldn't have to ask the government for permission to exercise your 2nd amendment right, make sure you fully understand what you may or may not do and where you may or may not carry because the gun laws still apply and ignorance is not an acceptable legal defense.
