As a freedom loving American who works hard for a living, would you tolerate people breaking into your home, beating up your spouse and kids, and stealing your property?

I sure as heck wouldn't, and I would use any lawful means at my disposal to prevent that from happening.  After all, I should be allowed to defend myself and my family in my home, shouldn't I?

The incident I just described is a real story.  When I first watched the report on it, it seemed cut and dry.  But, then, I was shocked at the outcome...

5 men kicked their way into a suburban home.  They grabbed a hold of the lady of the house and began to beat her demanding money and access to the safe. 

Her husband grabbed his gun and confronted the intruders.  He shot one of them dead, and the other 4 cowards fled the scene.  Pretty straightforward self-defense response as far as I could tell.  Wouldn't you agree?

Then you can imagine my shock and disbelief when the homeowner was arrested and charged with murder.  Excuse me... What?

I know there are some states in our divided union that have some ridiculous gun laws, but this is ridiculous?

Well, guess what?  It happened in Toronto, Canada.  Where law-abiding citizens are no longer allowed to use their firearms to defend themselves against violent criminals.  Not even inside their homes. 

Canada has banned semi-automatic rifles and handguns.  They limited the type of firearms one may own to a bare minimum and only for hunting and recreation.  And, also outlawed the use of these firearms for self-defense.  All in the name of making their communities safer from gun violence. 

How interesting!  I guess those home invaders never got the memo.  Well, in their defense, it's hard to read a memo when you can't actually read.  And why would you need to when the government is reducing your occupational hazard by disarming your law-abiding customers and making them the criminals instead? 

Where was the government when this incident happened?  Where was the police?  If all these anti-gun laws are supposed to make communities safer, why is this still happening?  Are they expecting us to fight multiple attackers with knives, sticks, and bare hands?

The fact is that criminals will never give up their guns.  The less armed the population, the more violence it will endure.  Law-abiding citizens will be sitting ducks.  It's assanine thinking at its best.

You don't have to like guns to understand the immeasurable value it has when all else fails.  You can't talk yourself out of every situation.  You can't learn martial arts well enough in a few months to fight 5 armed attackers.

Just like you can't just cough up tens of thousands of dollars to fight an illness or property damage without having insurance in place. 

There are times when nothing else will do than a firearm.  It is the only true equalizer.  Sometimes, without even firing a shot.  Insurance protects that which you can least afford to lose.  Don't your life and the life of your loved ones fit in that category?
